Traunstein – A player with a guards measure will strengthen the first men’s team in the Chiemgau Baskets over the next two years: the new center of the Bayernliga team measures 2.17 meters. Kameron Rooks from San Diego will appear for the basketball department of TV Traunstein from September 1, 2021 and also support the youth program as a trainer and ambassador.

The 26-year-old wore the colors of Mission Hills High School Grizzlies in high school. Then the “Big Fella” played from 2013 to 2018 in the US college league NCAA for the California Golden Bears of the University of California at Berkeley and the San Diego State Aztecs. In 2018, the Delaware Blue Coats from Wilmington (Delaware) drafted him for the NBA G-League. Due to injuries, he had to do without and wanted to start over at the Mildura Heat in Australia in 2020, which the Covid 19 pandemic prevented. Kameron Rooks is the son of Sean Rooks, who played for various franchises in the NBA for twelve years from 1992 to 2004 and who surprisingly died of a heart attack in 2016.

The first contact with the Chiemgau Baskets came about over a year ago through head coach Luis Prantl, as reported by department head and sports director Franz Buchenrieder. They stayed in touch and started concrete talks when Baskets top player Lorenzo Griffin announced his decision to return to the United States for personal reasons. The decisive arguments for Kameron Rooks to take the step across the Atlantic were the constant professionalization of the department and the familiar environment that the Chiemgau Baskets offer.

“I signed with the Chiemgau Baskets because I believe they can help me develop as a basketball player and as a person,” said Rooks after signing the contract. “Franz Buchenrieder and Luis Prantl showed me a familiar environment in which I feel comfortable and can quickly get used to despite the new surroundings. My goal is to win the championship with the team. “

Kameron Rooks is a classic center player whose strengths lie in rebounding, blocking throws and being aggressive in the “inside game” under the basket. With this player, the Traunsteiners can compensate for their average size, which has been rather small for the league so far. In addition, those responsible were convinced that Rooks would also be happy to support the youth program as a trainer and as an ambassador for the school cooperations and the school tour planned for autumn. “In the discussions we got the impression that he particularly appreciates the friendly and positive environment we offer,” reports Franz Buchenrieder.

Kameron Rooks have high basketball quality as a player, enthuses the department head. “Together with him we want to use future opportunities and grow as a program.” The American is a suitable piece of the puzzle in the team structure in terms of play. He gives the squad more physical presence and should make the entire team better and more flexible, both defensively and offensively. Head coach Luis Prantl adds: “Despite his height of 2.17 meters, Kameron is a very variable and above all agile player. In addition, we have recruited a committed and above all highly motivated youth trainer in him. We are very happy to be able to welcome him here in Traunstein as part of our Chiemgau Baskets family for two years! ”At the beginning of September, Kameron Rooks will meet the Bavarian League for the Chiemgau Baskets at the beginning of the preparatory games.
