Genaro Sanjinés, passionate about the rules of the game in golf

Genaro Sanjinés Gómez, born in La Paz but living in Cochabamba, is passionate about golf, since he works as a coach, referee and vice president of the Bolivian Golf Federation (FBG).

He was a fundamental part for this discipline to develop successfully in the XI South American Games Cocha 2018, in addition to carrying out this sport at the Country Club Cochabamba (CCC).

He also holds important positions in teaching the rules of golf at the South American level.

How did your love for golf come about?

My love of golf began in 2001, when I became a member of the Cochabamba Country Club (CCC) and started playing golf, that is, 20 years ago. I started playing at 36 years old.

Who was your first coach?

The one who taught me to play was Alejandro Olmos (teacher at the Country Club Cochabamba). He played three times a week.

Currently, I continue to play with the same frequency, my best handicap has been 7 and now I have 9.

What club did you start playing for?

I have always represented the Country Club Cochabamba as a player and Bolivia as a manager.

How long have you been in arbitration?

I have been an official referee since 2016 in international tournaments, such as South America, Los Andes Cup (main tournament on the continent), in the youth and junior categories. Also in the United States at USGA tournaments.

What are your main achievements?

They were mainly in the leadership and training area in the Rules of Golf. I was chairman of the board of the CCC (Country Club Cochabamba).

What positions have you held?

From 2014 to 2016 I was chairman of the CCC board of directors; Vice President of the FBG (Bolivian Golf Federation) from 2010 to 2014; Vice President of the CCC Board of Directors from 2021 to 2023, from 2018 to 2022 I am again Vice President of the FBG.

My main aspiration is to be a holder of the FBG. I am also the representative of Bolivia in the Rules Committee of the South American Golf Federation, a golf referee in the Los Andes Cup from 2016 to 2019 and captain of the Bolivia women’s team in different versions of the Los Andes Cup.

What was your participation in the 2018 Cocha South American Games?

I was appointed as technical delegate of the organization of the discipline of golf by the executive secretary of the South American Golf Federation, I was also appointed delegate of Bolivia in the Bolivarian games in Santa Martha, Colombia, by the Bolivian Olympic Committee (COB) in 2019 .

In addition, at the Bolivia Open I was the judge commissioned by the organizing committee.

What courses have you taught?

Courses and seminars on golf rules in all Bolivian clubs, together with César Carrasco from La Paz Golf Club, the only ones trained and authorized by the R&A (Royal & Acient) for this. My passion for golf really dates back to the day I started playing, my strength is the rules of golf.

What other sports have you played?

I also play soccer in the senior category at CCC.

What distinctions have you received?

Diploma or certificate of excellence as an arbitrator awarded by the R&A.
