With the Red Devils no longer claiming a Johnson & Johnson vaccine, which is reserved for people over the age of 40 and of which only one dose is required, the Devils’ vaccination strategy will have to be adjusted.
Pfizer and AstraZeneca vaccines require two inoculations to be fully protected, but to date medical staff have not set a date for the first shot. After all, the medical framework is in two minds. On the one hand, the health of the players is crucial to them, but on the other hand, they also do not want to be blind to the possible side effects of a vaccination and their influence on the performance of the players.
The doctors, who are assisted by virologists, therefore first want to have concrete data, in order to make the best possible decision. A second shot could possibly be given after the tournament. The decision will be made in the coming days.
At the moment, almost no Red Devil has been vaccinated. Just like the foreign players in Belgium, the Red Devils were not given priority in the country where they play. The RBFA also underlines that it fully supports the government’s vaccination campaign.
