Wu-Tang Clan Headlines Lions Thanksgiving Halftime Show

The Detroit Lions’ 87th annual Thanksgiving Day game will carry a hip-hop centerpiece this year: Wu-Tang Clan is set to headline the halftime show at Ford Field when Detroit hosts the Chicago Bears on Thursday, Nov. 26, Caucus Football reported.

The game kicks off at 1 p.m. ET and will air on CBS. Actor and singer Antonio Cipriano, a Grosse Pointe Woods, Michigan, native, will perform the national anthem. The halftime show is being produced for a second straight year by rapper Eminem and his longtime manager Paul Rosenberg, president of Shady Records, who hold a multi-year agreement with the Lions and select the performers themselves.

Lions president Rich Haddad called the Thanksgiving game one of sports’ great traditions and said Wu-Tang Clan ranks among the greatest groups in music history. Rosenberg said Eminem and he have been fans of the group since the early 1990s, as has an entire generation of Lions supporters.

A Farewell Tour and a Hall of Fame Induction Frame the Moment

The New York group is currently on its farewell world tour, “Wu-Tang Forever: The Final Chamber,” and was recently inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Formed in Staten Island in the early 1990s, the group released eight studio albums, three of them certified quadruple platinum, and its catalog exceeds 85 albums when members’ solo projects are included. Beyond music, the group built a cultural empire spanning clothing lines, video games, books, film and television.

Lions-Bears Rivalry Adds Stakes on the Field

The NFC North rivals are both off to strong starts this season, and the Bears recently added star defensive lineman Jeffery Simmons to their roster, making the on-field matchup worth watching alongside the entertainment.
