The Frankfurt Skyliners have officially ended their contract with American guard Jaedon LeDee and will pursue legal steps to seek compensation for damage caused during his five-week standoff, the Basketball Bundesliga club announced Saturday, hessenschau.de reported.
LeDee, 26, traveled to the United States at the end of February without permission and did not return for three weeks. He reappeared in Frankfurt on March 11 but refused to play for the Skyliners again, the club said.
The Skyliners cited an “irreparable loss of trust” and confirmed they would receive a transfer fee as part of the separation. Managing director Gunnar Wöbke condemned in the strongest terms the tactic of players using strikes to pressure clubs despite holding valid contracts.
“We have set a clear signal in the LeDee case, but at the end of the day we cannot force players to play for us,” Wöbke said.
Sports managing director Sebastian Gleim said the past five weeks had not been easy for the team and that the club was forced to make a decision for the squad’s sake.
Frankfurt’s Eight-Point Lead Over Relegation
LeDee joined the Skyliners from the United States last summer and quickly became a key performer, appearing in 14 competitive matches. The team currently holds an eight-point lead over the first relegation spot in the BBL with the season finale approaching.
Tyger Campbell Signs Until Summer
To provide stability for the closing stretch, Frankfurt signed point guard Tyger Campbell with immediate effect. Campbell, who most recently played for the Tasmania JackJumpers in Australia and spent the 2024/25 season with Rasta Vechta, agreed to a contract running through the summer.
Head coach Klaus Perwas said Campbell had already played at a good level in various leagues and understood the demands of the BBL, experience that would help the team directly.
Timeline of the LeDee Dispute
Who replaces him? Tyger Campbell, a point guard who last played in Australia for the Tasmania JackJumpers, signed on a deal until the summer.
The Skyliners announced they will initiate legal steps to obtain compensation for the damage incurred during the five-week absence.
Eight points clear of the relegation zone, Frankfurt now looks to Campbell to steady the backcourt through the final stretch of the BBL season.
