Hornets send Steinbach and Anderson to Greensboro Swarm G-League

The Charlotte Hornets have sent German prospects Hannes Steinbach and Christian Anderson to the Greensboro Swarm, the team’s G-League affiliate in North Carolina, temporarily removing both 20-year-olds from the NBA roster after limited playing time in Charlotte, sportschau.de reported on November 5.

The Hornets announced the move Thursday in a brief statement. Sending young players to a farm team to gain game experience is standard practice in the NBA, sportschau.de noted.

Minimal NBA Minutes in Charlotte

Forward Steinbach appeared in only three Hornets games with brief stints, while guard Anderson played in eight contests and showed flashes of promise, according to sportschau.de and SPORT1. Both players had struggled to find space amid heavy competition at their positions in Charlotte.

Steinbach and Anderson joined the Hornets in the summer. The pair were teammates on Germany’s youth national teams, winning the U18 European Championship together and finishing as runners-up at the U19 World Championship.

Schröder Remains the Only German in Charlotte

The assignment leaves Dennis Schröder, a world and European champion who joined Charlotte this summer, as the sole German player on the Hornets’ NBA roster, SPORT1 reported.

A Step Down That Could Be Brief

Sportschau.de refers to the developmental league as the G-League, while SPORT1 uses the D-League name for the same competition. The Hornets indicated that Steinbach and Anderson could return to the NBA team soon, a routine arrangement for top young talents.
