Priske Defends Sparta After Bournemouth Defeat
Naši kluci odvedli proti tak dobrému týmu z Premier League super výkon,
said Sparta Prague manager Brian Priske after his side went down to defeat against AFC Bournemouth after the red card to Tobiáš Guddal (24) and three conceded goals in the fourth round of the UEFA Europa League phase. Priske praised his players, especially the opening 37 minutes before the dismissal.
The Czech side created chances worth nearly two expected goals (xG) in the first half against an opponent that had not conceded in its last six matches. Priske pointed to the first 37 minutes as evidence of his squad's capability, even as the red card proved decisive and the three goals conceded in the second half were also critical.
Guddal Dismissal Shifts European Momentum
The match turned in the 37th minute when 24-year-old Tobiáš Guddal collected his second yellow card of the evening.
Myslím, že je to zřejmé.
Nakonec totiž dostal druhou žlutou kartu a byl vyloučen, Priske when speaking to reporters about Guddal’s challenge, noting that while the player intended to stop the opponent, the contact gave the referee the opportunity to show the second yellow. The manager pointedly compared the officiating to domestic fixtures, asking reporters how many yellow cards such situations draw in the Czech league.

Despite playing with ten men, the players fought bravely for 78 minutes before Bournemouth scored three goals in the second half. Priske refused to blame the referee, saying the referees do their job as best they can, and that he was frustrated above all by the result, because his players’ performance was fantastic.
Tactical Adjustments and Individual Standouts
Priske wanted Andy and Macko in the right positions on the flanks, where they could create numerical superiority against Bournemouth’s aggressive, compact and narrow press. The first 37 minutes were fantastic in that respect.
Sivert Mannsverk wore the captain’s armband because Kryštof Karabec was unavailable, while Matěj Vydra was on the bench and Zelený did not start. Priske also praised the individual performances of Ebrima Singhateh, whose showing was clearly one of his best, and Josimar Alcócer, who has played at a high level since his arrival.
With Adam Ševínský and Emmanuel Uchenna sidelined by injuries—Ševínský is expected back after the international break while Uchenna requires a longer recovery—Priske said that giving Guddal so much playing time was his decision, adding that Guddal has done fantastic work during his first three months in the Sparta jersey.
Looking Back at Domestic Setbacks
Priske said, adding that the way the team has played and presented itself in recent weeks makes him happy. He noted that several small tactical adjustments were made and the players carried them onto the pitch splendidly, and that these small details are what the team needs to get on its side in the future.
