Pedro Martínez Cites Busy Schedule After Burgos Win

Head coach Pedro Martínez pointed to a relentless schedule and mounting physical strain following his team’s Liga victory against Recoletas San Pablo Burgos at the Movistar Arena during the sixth round of the league season.

Match Context at the Movistar Arena

The fixture at the Movistar Arena unfolded amid a punishing stretch of fixtures that has left the squad with minimal preparation and recovery time. Martínez addressed the media after the final buzzer, explaining that the performance cannot be judged without factoring in the current team dynamics. A packed calendar has compounded physical issues across multiple roster spots.

“It’s a match that cannot be explained without the dynamic we’ve been having lately, with many games in a row, very little preparation time, very little recovery time, and also because we are now having quite a few physical problems in several players,” Martínez said.

Mental Preparation and On-Court Execution

The accumulation of matches affects more than just physical recovery. Martínez noted that the compressed schedule exacts a toll on the mental readiness required for professional competition.

“All of that makes it very difficult for the players to do a good mental preparation of the games every day,” the coach said. “And today has been an example of that.”

Despite the lack of a fluid, high-scoring spectacle, the squad managed to secure the result without severe distress. Martínez highlighted the ability to grind out the win as the primary takeaway from an unpolished outing.

“The most positive thing is that we pulled the game off without great suffering,” Martínez said. “And all even though we haven’t played brilliantly, because I think it’s difficult to always be good playing so many games in so few days.”
