NOS Extends Eredivisie Broadcast Rights Until 2032

Dutch public broadcaster NOS will continue to air summaries of the VriendenLoterij Eredivisie for the next five years, following a contract extension that secures the rights through the 2031/32 season. The agreement, announced Thursday, ensures that the network remains the home for Dutch top-flight football highlights for both men’s and women’s competitions. The deal maintains the broadcaster’s role in providing live radio coverage via the NOS Langs de Lijn program.

NOS Expands Digital Rights for Match Highlights

While the “plate-on-lap” Sunday evening broadcast remains a staple of the agreement, the new contract grants NOS significantly broader rights for digital distribution. The broadcaster will now have expanded capacity to share match highlights and summaries across its online platforms and social media channels.

Xander van der Wulp, editor-in-chief of NOS Sport, noted that these digital rights are essential for reaching a wider audience. “The familiar moment on NPO 1 remains, but with this agreement, we also get more opportunities to reach football fans who follow the Eredivisie in other ways, for example via NPO Start, our app, and social media,” Van der Wulp said.

The updated terms also provide the potential for the broadcaster to include footage from the Keuken Kampioen Divisie (the first division) and the women’s Eredivisie, broadening the scope of the coverage beyond the men’s top-tier league.

Broadcaster Prioritizes Football Accessibility During Fiscal Adjustment

The decision to extend the contract comes during a period of fiscal adjustment for the public broadcaster. Van der Wulp emphasized that maintaining the Eredivisie at the public broadcaster is a matter of accessibility.

“The summaries of the Eredivisie belong at the NOS,” Van der Wulp stated. “Even in times when we have to look critically at our expenses, it is important that Dutch football remains accessible to everyone at the public broadcaster.”

New Contract Extends Eredivisie Coverage Until 2031/32 Season

The five-year extension covers the period up to and including the 2031/32 season. The traditional Sunday broadcast, which typically begins at 19:00 local time on NPO 1, is confirmed to remain in place for the duration of this new contract. The network has not yet provided specific dates for when the expanded coverage of the Keuken Kampioen Divisie and the women’s Eredivisie will begin appearing in their regular rotation.
