Basque surfer Nadia Erostarbe concluded her competition at the Women’s Championship Tour event in the Philippines after defeating California’s Sawyer Lindblad in the opening round before bowing out against former world champion Tyler Wright in the quarterfinals.
First-round elimination of Sawyer Lindblad
Erostarbe opened her campaign in the inaugural World Surf League event at the venue by securing a come-from-behind victory against Lindblad in their opening-round heat. Lindblad, ranked fifth in the world and native to San Clemente, California, controlled much of the matchup with an opening wave score of 5.17 while Erostarbe stayed within reach with a 3.83. Trailing late in the heat, Erostarbe utilized her priority with three minutes remaining to post the highest-scoring wave of the contest, a 5.67. With ninety seconds left on the clock, she capitalized on a wave relinquished by Lindblad—who held priority—adding a 4.37 to seal the win and advance directly to the quarterfinals.

Quarterfinal defeat against Tyler Wright
Deteriorating wave conditions on Sunday met Erostarbe in her quarterfinal heat against Australia’s Tyler Wright. Wright set a formidable pace by executing a ride scored at 7.50, putting the Basque competitor under immediate pressure. Erostarbe responded with a 5.33 wave, but Wright extended her lead by backing it up with a 6.17 score to finish the heat with a total of 13.67. Holding priority, Erostarbe waited for a high-scoring opportunity in the closing minutes, needing upwards of eight points to overtake the Australian. She managed to improve her score to a 7.93, but time expired before she could secure the wave needed to turn the heat.
Movement in the Women’s Championship Tour rankings
Despite her quarterfinal exit, Erostarbe’s performance in the Philippines elevates her position on the women’s Championship Tour leaderboard. By surpassing American surfer Caroline Marks, Erostarbe moves into the eleventh position in the overall standings with 30,660 points. The result leaves only one remaining event on the regular-season calendar, the Lexus Pipe Masters scheduled for Oahu, Hawaii.
