Luther Burden III, Rome Odunze Emerge as Week 9 Fantasy Starts

Luther Burden III and Rome Odunze have emerged as high-upside fantasy options for Week 9, as both wide receivers continue to thrive with Caleb Williams back under center for the Chicago Bears. The duo’s production, particularly in the last three games, has solidified their roles as viable starters despite a difficult upcoming matchup against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Bears Receivers Build Momentum

Luther Burden III has recorded at least 17.5 PPR points in three consecutive games, including a Week 8 performance against the Seattle Seahawks where he hauled in seven of nine targets for 56 yards and a touchdown. Rome Odunze has shown similar consistency, scoring at least 10.7 PPR points in each of his past two outings, highlighted by an 87-yard performance on four catches against Seattle. While the Buccaneers currently rank sixth in the fewest fantasy points allowed to opposing receivers, analysts suggest the Bears’ pair remains capable of significant production.

Injured Receivers Play Through Broken Ribs

Fantasy managers continue to navigate significant injury reports heading into Sunday’s games. Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Michael Wilson is expected to play through two broken ribs, a condition he managed while catching a game-tying touchdown pass in Dallas last week. Christian Watson of the Green Bay Packers is also dealing with a broken rib sustained in Week 8, though he returned to the field to finish his night with eight catches for 113 yards after being transported to the hospital during the game.

With DeVonta Smith dealing with an injury, Makai Lemon is a viable streaming option if Smith remains unavailable. Elsewhere, Mike Evans of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers did not practice Wednesday due to Achilles and rib injuries, while Treylon Burks (foot) also missed practice time.

Quarterback Struggles Limit Receiver Fantasy Production

Not every player is currently a recommended start. Tre Tucker of the Las Vegas Raiders is listed as a scoring downgrade for Week 9 against the 49ers. Tetairoa McMillan of the Carolina Panthers has fallen off since the Week 5 bye, averaging 8.8 fantasy points per game compared to 15.4 in the season’s first month. Despite his strong usage—including an 87% route rate and 33% end-zone target share—analysts point to the struggling efficiency of quarterback Bryce Young as a significant factor in McMillan’s recent decline.
