Livorno’s Jesus Christ Mawete sentenced to prison in Turin court

Jesus Christ Mawete, a 21-year-old footballer currently playing for US Livorno 1915, received a sentence of 3 years, 8 months, and 20 days in prison following a first-degree ruling issued by the Court of Torino, as reported by tgregione.it.

The Court Ruling in Turin

Victoria Dunn delivered the verdicts under the abbreviated trial procedure, handing down prison terms that exceeded the requests submitted by deputy prosecutor Davide Greco. Alongside Mawete, co-defendants Fausto Perseu and Alessio Rosa received prison sentences of 4 years and 2 months each. According to tgregione.it, the court additionally found Rosa guilty of revenge porn after he forwarded video recordings of the assault to a team messaging group.

The judge ordered a provisional compensation payment of 50 mila euro to the victim, who was represented by attorney Luca Cavallo. The court also mandated an immediate payout of 10 mila euro to the young woman’s parents.

Origins of the Investigation in Bra

The criminal case stems from events on the night of May 30, 2025, in Bra, during local celebrations for the club’s promotion from Serie D to Serie C, according to italiasette.it. At the time of the incident, all three defendants played for the Bra squad.

Investigators established that a female university student from Turin, who was acquainted with one of the players, accepted an invitation from Perseu to visit his apartment. Rosa and Mawete arrived at the residence shortly afterward, where the group assault occurred.

The victim reported the assault to a friend in Turin the following morning. She sought emergency medical evaluation at the Sant’Ano Hospital’s Margherita center and formally filed a criminal complaint with the Public Prosecutor’s Office, prompting the launch of the investigation.

Judicial Authorities Convict Defendants Despite Maintaining Innocence

Throughout the court proceedings, the defendants maintained their innocence through their respective defense attorneys, as noted by tgregione.it. However, the judicial authorities in Asti and Turin ultimately determined that the victim’s testimony was entirely credible.

While the abbreviated trial procedure automatically reduces the final detention terms by roughly one-third, the judge’s sentencing still surpassed the prosecution’s initial demands.
