Jack Campbell remains hospitalized with neck injury, signs positive

“Preliminary indications are positive,” the Detroit Lions said in a statement Monday, ESPN Deportes reported.

All-Pro linebacker Jack Campbell remained hospitalized Monday for evaluation and monitoring of a neck injury sustained during Sunday’s 19-15 victory over the Minnesota Vikings. The team said Campbell “continues to rest and recover at a local hospital” and that “out of respect for Jack and his family, we will not share further information at this time.”

Backboarded early in the fourth quarter

Campbell was placed on a backboard and carted off the field early in the fourth quarter, ESPN reported. He was alert and breathing on his own when he was transported to the hospital.

The injury occurred when Campbell went down face-first on the turf and did not move after tackling Vikings tight end T.J. Hockenson for his third tackle of the game. Medical personnel evaluated him on the field before strapping him to a board and carefully lifting him onto a cart, which drew applause from the crowd. Detroit’s entire team and most of the coaching staff surrounded the cart as he left the field.

Coach Dan Campbell responds after the game

“We’re thinking about him,” Lions coach Dan Campbell said after the game.

From No. 18 draft pick to All-Pro honors

The former Iowa star was selected by the Lions with the 18th overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. Last season, Campbell earned All-Pro selection after becoming the first NFL player in seven years to record more than 150 tackles, at least five sacks and three forced fumbles in a single season, according to ESPN. The Lions signed Campbell to a four-year contract extension in May that runs through the 2030 season.

The team has not provided a timeline for Campbell’s return to the field and said it will not release additional medical details at this time.
