Füllkrug declines to discuss Germany national team return after Bundesliga loss

Niclas Füllkrug refused to discuss his upcoming return to the German national team following a 1-0 defeat against Stuttgart on Saturday evening.

The striker, who is currently the leading goalscorer in the Bundesliga this season, said in an interview with ZDF’s “Aktuelles Sportstudio” that he was focused on his club’s recent result.

Füllkrug requested space to process the loss, telling the broadcaster, “Please, a little respect. We just lost a game. That is not in my head right now.”

Füllkrug prioritizes club result over Nations League schedule

Despite follow‑up questions from the moderator regarding the significance of his international nomination, Füllkrug remained focused on the match against Stuttgart. He emphasized that his immediate priority is the domestic loss rather than the upcoming international fixtures.

The forward clarified that he is not currently considering the upcoming Nations League matches scheduled for next week. According to his comments to ZDF, Germany has Nations League matches against Serbia on Friday and the Netherlands three days later.

“That doesn’t interest me right now. I don’t want to be rude, but we just lost 1-0 against Stuttgart, even though we played a good game,” Füllkrug said. “I’m not thinking about what is next week; that doesn’t interest me at the moment.”

Germany Nations League fixtures approach

Füllkrug’s return to the DFB squad comes ahead of two critical Nations League fixtures. Germany is scheduled to play in Serbia on Friday, with a subsequent match against the Netherlands following three days later.
