Flamengo matched Athletico-PR for the most players selected in the official tournament squad. Goalkeeper Gabriel Werneck, centre-back Daniel Silva, known as Thuram, and forward João Vitor Couto earned direct call-ups for the global competition.

Younger Academy Talents Join

Coach Patetuci also invited two defenders from Flamengo’s U-16 side to complete training sessions alongside the main group. Born in 2010, Felipe Pina and Rafael Barreto traveled to Teresópolis to experience the national team environment.

I was very happy to receive the call-up, said Felipe Pina, who joined Flamengo in 2019 for the U-9 category, according to flamengo.com.br. It’s a really important opportunity for my development.

Rafael Barreto joined his club teammate at the training camp following a milestone moment in his own career. In September, after spending a decade wearing the club shirt, Barreto signed his first professional contract with Flamengo.

The experience has been very special, especially as it’s my first time at Granja, Barreto told flamengo.com.br. I hope to have more opportunities to come back here.

Vargem Grande Academy Production

Flamengo’s youth setup, operating out of the Centro de Formação de Atletas in Vargem Grande, Rio de Janeiro, houses more than 200 players ranging from the U-13 to U-20 levels, sportscalendar.io reported. The facility has previously developed prominent international stars including Vinícius Júnior and Lucas Paquetá.

The club’s developmental philosophy centers on technical proficiency, tactical awareness, and an emphasis on ball possession and attacking football introduced at the earliest age groups. Other standout prospects in the club’s pipeline include midfielder Matheus Gonçalves, forward Victor Hugo, and defender Cleiton, according to sportscalendar.io.

Upcoming Delegation Travel

Following the initial training block at Granja Comary in Teresópolis, the Brazil squad will complete their preparations and travel onward to Qatar for the World Cup.
