Don Benito Judo Club Secures Full Qualification for Spanish Championship in Lugo

Club Judo Don Benito secured a full sweep of qualifications for the Spanish Absolute Championship during the Sector Sur qualification tournament held in Cáceres. The club posted a strong performance in a competition that featured teams from Extremadura, Andalusia, the Canary Islands, Castilla-La Mancha, Ceuta, and Melilla.

Medal Wins in Cáceres Secure National Berths

All three competing judokas from Don Benito earned their qualification objectives for the national finals, which are scheduled to take place in Lugo in one month. Eusebio Rigote led the team by capturing the gold medal in the -60 kg division. Teammate Chesco González added a silver medal in the -73 kg category, while Aitana Mera secured a bronze medal in the -78 kg division.

The three podium finishes guarantee that the club will be fully represented in the final phase of the national championship. For Mera, the qualification carries additional weight as she competed through a shoulder injury. The injury did not prevent her from reaching the podium and securing her spot at the national tournament for the second year.

Club Involvement Beyond the Competition Floor

Alongside the competitive results, members of Club Judo Don Benito also contributed to the event off the mat. Several judokas participated in refereeing and volunteer duties, assisting with the development and organization of the tournament in Cáceres.

Club leadership extended congratulations to Rigote, González, and Mera for their results and qualification, while also thanking the athletes who supported the event through their work in auxiliary roles.

Road to the Absolute National Championship in Lugo

The squad’s immediate focus turns to the Spanish Absolute Championship in Lugo, where Rigote, González, and Mera will represent the club colours in the national final phase.
