Carlos Alcaraz defeated Alex de Minaur 6-1, 6-4 in the final of the Erste Bank Open in Vienna on November 1, capturing his first title at the ATP 500 indoor hard-court tournament and extending his career haul at that level to 11 trophies.
Straight-Set Victory in Vienna
Alcaraz needed just one hour and 27 minutes to dispatch Australia’s de Minaur in the championship match. The 23-year-old Spaniard dictated play with heavy groundstrokes, keeping his opponent moving from side to side and neutralizing the tenth-ranked Australian’s defensive capabilities. Alcaraz broke serve three times in the opening set to establish control. He maintained a clean service record in the second set before securing a decisive break in the tenth game to close out the match.

The victory capped a dominant week for the world number three, who did not drop a single set across his five matches. It marked Alcaraz’s fourth tour-level title of the season and the 28th singles trophy of his professional career. His path to the final included wins over Karen Khachanov, Nikoloz Basilashvili, Tommy Paul, and Daniil Medvedev.
Extending ATP 500 Dominance
With his 11th title at the ATP 500 level, Alcaraz sits just behind the benchmarks set by the sport’s “Big Three” since the category’s inception in 2009. Roger Federer leads that category with 16 titles, while Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal each hold 15.
Alcaraz’s victory in Vienna also preserved an extended unbeaten run in ATP 500 events. He improved his record within the category to 16-0 this season, having previously won hard-court titles at the Qatar ExxonMobil Open in Doha and the Kinoshita Group Japan Open Tennis Championships 2026. His winning streak at ATP 500 events reached 26 matches, dating back to his loss to Holger Rune in the final of the Barcelona Open in April 2025.
Player Reactions and Hard-Court Progress
Reflecting on his performance after the final, Alcaraz pointed to the developmental value of succeeding on indoor surfaces. “I’m really happy to play great tennis,” Alcaraz said. “It has been a very emotional and great week for me. I learned a lot, and I want to keep going forward, step by step, playing indoors and getting more confidence on this surface.”
De Minaur reached the final by defeating top seed Alexander Zverev in the semifinals but could not find a breakthrough against Alcaraz’s aggressive baseline attack in the title match.
