Blackburn Heads to South Wales for Saturday Championship Clash
Blackburn Rovers travel to South Wales to face Swansea City on Saturday in a crucial EFL Championship fixture, arriving with renewed squad depth despite a significant injury list. Manager Tony Mowbray confirmed that defenders Yuri Ribeiro and Kristi Montgomery alongside forward Yuki Ohashi are available for selection.
Blackburn arrives at the match looking to maintain momentum following a 2–0 victory over Wrexham last weekend. However, the squad faces notable absences, including captain Sam Morsy, who serves a one-match suspension after picking up his fifth yellow card of the season during the win against Wrexham.
Hamstring Recoveries Bolster Substitutes’ Bench Options
Yuri Ribeiro and Yuki Ohashi make the trip to Wales after missing significant stretches of the campaign with hamstring injuries. Ribeiro has been sidelined for a month, while Ohashi has missed two months of action. Mowbray told BBC Radio Lancashire that both players are available for the substitutes’ bench, providing much-needed depth during a demanding fixture schedule.

Kristi Montgomery also rejoins the group after missing the Wrexham fixture. The midfielder has completed full training sessions, and the coaching staff will assess him prior to kickoff to ensure there are no physical setbacks. The return of Ribeiro, Ohashi, and Montgomery gives Blackburn additional options to manage demanding periods away from home.
Jorgensen Ruled Out Following Fresh Setback
While some players return, central defender Mathias Jorgensen faces another spell on the sidelines. Jorgensen suffered a fresh injury setback earlier this month after appearing close to a first-team return. The defender sustained a quad niggle in training, as reported by the Lancashire Telegraph, ruling him out of the trip to Swansea.
🗣️ TM: "The squad is looking good. The bench for Saturday is pretty experienced – it's good to have [Yuki] Ohashi and [Yuri] Ribeiro available. Mori isn't too far away, a couple of weeks maybe, and Matty Jorgensen probably another two or three weeks I think." pic.twitter.com/esa13HuwuG
Mowbray emphasized the mental toll of the recurring injuries, noting that the club granted Jorgensen a brief period away to spend time with his family. The manager indicated that the player is expected to miss approximately three more weeks of action while he recovers both physically and mentally from the interrupted rehabilitation process.
Treatment Room Strain Tests Rovers’ Squad Depth
Blackburn’s depth will be tested further by ongoing injuries elsewhere in the squad. Attacking midfielder Ryoya Morishita is sidelined for up to three weeks after picking up an ankle injury during the fixture against West Bromwich Albion earlier this month. Combined with Morsy's suspension and Jorgensen's absence, the Rovers must travel to Swansea without several established names.

The Championship encounter at Swansea City kicks off on Saturday, marking a crucial test for Rovers as they attempt to sustain their league form despite a depleted treatment room.
