AhoraMismo.com reported that MLBTradeRumors analyst Darragh McDonald projects the New York Yankees will re-sign right-handed reliever Jonathan Loaisiga to a two-year deal worth $13 million, returning a pitcher who spent his first eight major league seasons in New York before joining the Arizona Diamondbacks for the 2025 campaign.
The projection comes as Major League Baseball’s free-agent market officially opened Monday, with no significant agreements closed as of the report. New York is seeking to fortify a bullpen that delivered uneven results en route to a sweep by the Tampa Bay Rays in the American League Division Series, and Loaisiga fits the profile of a setup reliever who could bridge the middle innings behind closer David Bednar.
Loaisiga posted a 2.42 ERA in 67 innings with Arizona
According to the report, Loaisiga went 7-3 with a 2.42 ERA across 67 innings for the Diamondbacks in 2025, his second-highest single-season workload in the majors. MLBTradeRumors noted that signing Loaisiga to a one-year, low-cost contract was one of Arizona’s best moves last winter. The 31-year-old, who will turn 32 this winter, threw at least 30 innings for the first time since 2022, though he has exceeded 40 innings in a season only three times in his nine-year career.
Loaisiga’s ground-ball tendencies make him a natural fit for teams with strong infield defense, and he holds a 26-15 record with a 3.30 ERA across nine MLB seasons.
Yankees extend $23.15 million qualifying offer to Bednar
Before the market opened, the Yankees tendered a qualifying offer worth $23.15 million to David Bednar. The right-hander posted a 7-3 record with a 2.47 ERA in 64 games during the 2025 season, converting 35 of 39 save opportunities. Bednar can accept the one-year contract, reject it to enter free agency, or reject it and negotiate a multi-year extension with New York; if he signs with another club after rejecting the offer, the Yankees would receive a compensatory draft selection.
No major free-agent deals closed as market opens
As of Monday, the free-agent market had produced no major signings. The Yankees are expected to move decisively to address their bullpen needs following the postseason exit, and Loaisiga represents a reunion with a pitcher who has already demonstrated he can pitch in New York.
