Carabinier Patrols Target Acireale and Aci Castello Nightlife
Carabinieri forces deployed in the nightlife districts of Acireale and Aci Castello over the weekend filed three criminal complaints, seized illegal weapons, and issued seven traffic violations, according to reports from EDA Communication and local news outlet etnanews24.it.
Weapons Seizure and Attempted Theft Charges
Authorities intercepted several criminal acts during the weekend enforcement operation, which included support from the 12th Regiment Sicily’s mobile intervention unit. A 23-year-old resident of Acireale faces charges for carrying dangerous weapons after a vehicle search revealed a switchblade with a blade exceeding 17 centimeters alongside a baseball bat in his trunk, as detailed by EDA Communication. In a separate incident along Corso di Aci Castello, etnanews24.it reported that a 57-year-old man from Catania was apprehended while attempting to steal cigarette packs from an automated vending machine outside a tobacconist shop. Officers recovered the stolen merchandise and returned it to the owner, charging the suspect with attempted aggravated theft.
Vehicle Recovery and Traffic Enforcement Operations
Investigators recovered an automobile that had been reported stolen several days prior, finding it driven by a 29-year-old man from Aci Castello. According to etnanews24.it, the vehicle was fitted with license plates stolen from a different car parked in Catania months earlier. Officers returned both the vehicle and the plates to their rightful owners, while the driver was referred to judicial authorities on money laundering charges. EDA Communication noted that all three suspects benefit from the legal presumption of innocence until a final conviction is established. Alongside the criminal complaints, patrols stopped 11 vehicles and checked 27 individuals, issuing seven fines under the Italian highway code primarily for mobile phone use while driving, failure to wear a helmet, and operating a vehicle without mandatory insurance.
