On October 1, the opening day of the National Day holiday, the Wuhan Ganlushanyuan International Tourism Resort in Huang陂 District welcomed crowds as two new sports facilities officially opened their doors: a lakeside tennis court and a sky pickleball court.
New Facilities Expand the Resort’s Sports and Tourism Offerings
The addition of the two new courts expands the multi-sector sports and tourism ecosystem at Ganlushanyuan, a resort initially built around winter sports. Situated along the shores of Ganlu Lake, the newly opened outdoor tennis court spans nearly 700 square meters and meets Wuhan Open standard tournament specifications. Visitors quickly filled the courts to test the new playing surfaces. Chen, a tourist visiting from out of town, brought his family straight to the sports complex. He noted that playing by the water offered a steady ball speed, comfortable shock absorption, and a relaxing breeze off the lake before heading to the ski slopes and evening performances.
Integrating Sports With the Natural Environment
Jia Zhili, chairman of the Wuhan Ganlushanyuan Cultural and Tourism City Company, stated that management aimed to build more than just athletic fields. With existing ski slopes, a lake, dining options, and guesthouses, the resort seeks to use sports as a connective thread running through the entire vacation experience. Guests can transition from skiing to stretching on the courts and finish with coffee by the water, linking physical activity with nature and socialization.
Pickleball Joins the Lineup to Attract Younger Visitors
Debuting alongside the lakeside tennis venue, the sky pickleball court introduces a distinct athletic option. Pickleball combines elements of tennis, badminton, and table tennis, growing rapidly across China due to its low barrier to entry and strong social component. Jia Zhili noted that the new pickleball installation caters to younger demographic groups, addresses a lack of professional local pickleball courts, and broadens recreational choices for nearby residents.
Year-Round Sports Matrix and Holiday Celebrations
Ganlushanyuan’s sports development extends beyond the autumn holiday. The resort’s core indoor ski facility previously secured International Ski Federation (FIS) certification, establishing itself as a top-tier winter sports venue and training base that has hosted China’s national snowboard parallel giant slalom team. Alongside tennis, pickleball, and stand-up paddleboarding along the lake, the resort maintains a year-round operational model combining cold-weather and warm-weather recreation. During the National Day holiday, the resort launched a two-year anniversary discount season featuring light shows, art exhibitions, and trend sports, alongside more than ten new storefront openings including the central China debut of Kryo.
