Pengo Bossio Wangi, a 26-year-old amateur mixed martial artist and regular competitor for the Atch Academy in Aubervilliers, was killed on Friday, October 23, 2026, during a racist terrorist attack that spanned Trappes and La Verrière in the Yvelines department. While walking in the street, he was struck by burst gunfire from Kévin T., the perpetrator of the attack that also left five people injured, including a 12-year-old girl.
Originally from Poissy and having grown up in foster care, Wangi had spent the last three years training regularly at the Atch Academy in Seine-Saint-Denis, competing in the welterweight (-77 kg) and middleweight (-84 kg) divisions with a record of three wins and four losses. Club founder Stéphane Chaufourier noted that Wangi made a daily 1-hour and 20-minute journey each way from the Yvelines to train for two hours every evening, showing a rare level of dedication as he worked toward a professional fighting career. Described as smiling, attentive, and close to his family, Wangi viewed MMA as a social outlet.
