Vietnam is dispatching a 498-member contingent to the 20th Asian Games (ASIAD 20) in Japan. The national team has mapped out its competitive calendar and high-stakes medal ambitions across a broad spectrum of disciplines.
Ambitions and Roster Set for Japan Games
Led by Nguyen Hong Minh, vice-director of the Authority of Sports of Vietnam, alongside vice-chef de delegation Hoang Quoc Vinh, the delegation spans athletics, shooting, swimming, martial arts, sepak takraw, esports, rowing, and team sports.
Sepak Takraw and Esports Eyeing Podiums
As the schedule advances, the spotlight rests squarely on sepak takraw and esports. The sepak takraw squad entered matches carrying strong psychological stability and sharp tactical coordination.
The team aims to build upon previous success—specifically the women’s team gold medal secured at the ASIAD 2023 in Indonesia—to maintain regional dominance, according to Bao Nghe An. Right alongside them, Vietnam’s esports representatives are contesting crucial matches in their respective gaming titles.
Shooting and archery demand absolute concentration during qualification and final rounds to maximize scoring output.
Meanwhile, national representatives in martial arts—including wushu, karate, taekwondo, and jiu-jitsu—have entered the competition arenas with targeted medal goals. International experts and dedicated coaching staff support these athletes every step of the way.
Multi-Tiered Funding and Delegation Support
Preparation and operational funding for the 498-member delegation are distributed across multiple administrative tiers.
The Authority of Sports of Vietnam directly finances 343 members, covering airfares, accommodation, meals, competition equipment, and insurance under decision no. 1269/QĐ-TDTTVN issued on August 24, 2026. The remaining 155 participants receive financial backing from local authorities, national sports federations, and associations, ensuring comprehensive support for athletes, medical personnel, and administrative staff throughout the Games.
