Vietnam Sends 36-Member Delegation to 2026 Asian Para Games

The Vietnam Paralympic delegation is preparing a 36-member squad for the 2026 Asian Para Games, fielding 21 athletes across five sports under the leadership of Nguyen Trong Ho, deputy director of the Vietnam Sports Department, vietnam.vn reported.

Delegation composition and sports breakdown

Vietnam’s contingent features competitors distributed across five disciplines, with athletics and swimming carrying the largest squads at seven athletes each. Weightlifting accounts for four competitors, table tennis includes two, and badminton features one athlete. The roster also lists a guide runner, six coaches, and administrative and medical personnel tasked with providing health care and professional support throughout the competition.

Training protocols and pre-competition schedule

Before leaving for Japan, national training squads completed preparation sessions focused on refining techniques, tactical execution, and physical conditioning. The Ho Chi Minh City National Sports Training Center hosted an encouragement meeting on October 8 to boost delegation morale ahead of the continental contests. Upon arrival in Japan, athletes will undergo injury assessments and acclimatization training starting October 12, followed by the team’s official flag-raising ceremony on the afternoon of October 16.

Competition timeline and medal expectations

The 2026 Asian Para Games officially opened on October 18, with medal events running from October 19 through October 23 before the closing ceremony on October 24. Weightlifting and swimming entered the event as Vietnam’s primary medal-contending disciplines. At the 2023 Asian Para Games in Hangzhou, China, the Vietnamese delegation secured 1 gold medal, 10 silver medals, and 9 bronze medals to finish 22nd overall, anchored by swimmer Le Tien Dat’s gold-medal performance in the men’s 100-meter breaststroke SB5 classification.
