Ten fresh recruits and a familiar face at the helm: the Université du Québec à Trois-Rivières badminton program has engineered a comprehensive structural overhaul for the 2026–2027 season, pushing to alter its competitive footprint within the Réseau du sport étudiant du Québec.
Jacob Beaudoin-Vigneault Assumes Head Coaching Duties
Jacob Beaudoin-Vigneault has stepped into the head coaching role for the UQTR Patriotes. His history with the organization runs deep, having spent two seasons as a player before transitioning to an assistant coach.
He now works alongside Donald Marchand, who has spent the past three years guiding the program. Together, the coaching staff intends to merge the organization’s foundational culture of teamwork with stringent new performance benchmarks as the team looks toward provincial competition.
Targeted Recruitment Addresses Roster Imbalances
The program’s intake of ten new student-athletes marks a deliberate shift in roster construction. Eight of these incoming players are women carrying significant competitive badminton backgrounds, with several boasting prior university-level playing experience.
“We wanted to balance a roster that leaned heavily on men’s depth during the previous year,” Donald Marchand noted, explaining the heavy emphasis on female recruits while the men’s side maintains a strong core of experienced veterans.
External Training Drills and Regional Camps
Preparation for the upcoming slate extends far beyond standard campus practices. The coaching staff has instituted external training sessions designed to expose players to visiting athletes and professional coaches, offering fresh tactical perspectives.

Concurrently, Jacob Beaudoin-Vigneault is spearheading the organization of badminton camps spanning school breaks and the summer months. These camps serve a dual purpose: generating vital program funding while cultivating the regional talent base.
Patriotes Aim for Top Four RSEQ Standings
The program’s ambitions reach past immediate campus borders. Jacob Beaudoin-Vigneault represents UQTR on a provincial committee that unites the RSEQ, Badminton Québec, and fellow university coaches with the shared mission of developing the sport across the entire circuit.
Armed with a revamped roster and an expanded coaching apparatus, the Patriotes have established a clear and demanding objective for the upcoming campaign: finish among the top four teams in the overall RSEQ standings across both men’s and women’s divisions.
