David Riera Pons claimed the Campeonato de Menorca Absoluto de Tenis after defeating Josep Coll Llopis in a three-set final with scores of 4-6, 7-5, 6-4 on the courts of Club Tennis Alayor.

Club Tennis Alayor Final Decided in Three Sets

The championship match concluded a two-week tournament held during the final fortnight of September in Alayor. Riera dropped the opening set before mounting a comeback against Coll Llopis to secure the title. The tournament served as the second points-scoring qualifying event for the upcoming Island Games scheduled for the Faroe Islands in 2027.

Island Games Qualifying Standings After Alayor

Under the regulatory framework established for the Faroe Islands qualifiers, known as Camí a Fèroe, tournament points are distributed directly to participants based on their finish. The champion receives 50 points, the runner-up earns 25, and semifinalists take home 15 points. Following the conclusion at Club Tennis Alayor, David Riera added 50 points to his tally, while Josep Coll collected 25, and Pau Riudavets earned 15 for reaching the semifinals.

These allocations place David Riera at the top of the men’s qualification standings with a cumulative 75 points. Josep Coll sits second in the rankings with 35 points, followed by Pau Riudavets in third position with 15 points.

Poliesportiu Verge del Carme Badminton Training Sessions

While the tennis qualification path relies on competitive tournament brackets, the local badminton delegation is preparing for the Faroe Islands 2027 multi-sport event through structured training camps. Poliesportiu Verge del Carme in Maó hosted the third training session of this preparation cycle on a Tuesday under the supervision of a technical coach. Twelve athletes, blending young talent with competitors possessing previous Island Games experience, shared the courts during the gathering.

Badminton yields a high medal count for the island’s delegation at the Island Games. The final team selection for the competition will be determined through technical decisions as the preparation window progresses.
