The Autonomous University of Coahuila (UAdeC) has temporarily suspended an archery coach identified as Miguel “N” after an institutional investigation was opened into alleged inappropriate conduct. University rector Octavio Pimentel Martínez confirmed that the protective measure was enacted while the University Tribunal for the Attention of Cases of Gender Violence examines complaints raised by a student athlete.
The allegations first surfaced publicly when university archer Abril Contreras posted accounts on social media describing behavior that made her uncomfortable during training sessions. The posts detailed comments regarding her appearance and romantic messages sent by the coach. Upon reviewing the posts, Pimentel Martínez contacted the athlete directly via social media to offer institutional support and provide direct contact details for university officials.
Tribunal Investigation and Protective Protocols
The formal inquiry is currently managed by Denise Mata Moreno, head of the University Tribunal, alongside Nadia Libertad Salas Carrillo from the University Human Rights Ombudsman’s Office. Pimentel Martínez explained that the institutional protocol has reached its information-gathering phase, during which testimonies and documentation from both parties are collected under strict confidentiality guidelines.
The temporary suspension serves purely as a precautionary measure and does not constitute a formal determination of guilt or a final administrative sanction. Depending on the findings, potential disciplinary measures permitted under UAdeC regulations range from formal reprimands to permanent dismissal from the institution.
Institutional Support and External Inquiries
Alongside the internal university proceedings, administrative staff provided psychological care and institutional accompaniment for the student athlete, ensuring she was supported throughout the investigative process without risking revictimization. University representatives accompanied the archer to the State Sport Institute of Coahuila (INEDEC), though university leadership noted they lack formal confirmation regarding whether a separate legal complaint was filed with the State Attorney General’s Office (Fiscalía General del Estado).

Rector Pimentel Martínez emphasized that the ultimate disciplinary decision rests entirely with the University Tribunal rather than the rector’s office. The administration intends to respect internal autonomy and labor rights while awaiting the tribunal’s final resolution on the matter.
