Carolina Escalada Achieves 7th Place Worldwide in 3D Archery Championship

Patagonian archer Carolina Escalada secured a seventh-place finish at the 3D archery world championship held at the Easton Yankton Archery Complex in Yankton, South Dakota, according to regional reporting. Competing in an international field following events that began after Sept. 28, Escalada posted the highest score of any athlete representing Argentina at the tournament.

World Championship Performance in South Dakota

Escalada outscored competitors from the Czech Republic, Germany, Canada, and Great Britain during the competition in the United States, alongside facing the reigning 2025 world champion from Italy. A fellow archer from Córdoba later put the scale of the tournament into perspective for her, noting that the discipline involves millions of practitioners worldwide. The Argentine delegation totaled 16 athletes, with six hailing from the Patagonian coast and cordillera regions.

Health Origins and Training Rigor

Escalada initially took up archery for physical recovery and health reasons rather than in her youth. Reflecting on her path to an international top-ten finish, she noted the skepticism she faced early on, recalling those who told her she would not succeed. Training schedules at the Yankton facility ran intensively from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily. To prepare for targets and terrain that local conditions in Puerto Madryn could not accommodate, she utilized training grounds at Tiro Federal de Trelew, alongside receiving support from contacts in Bahía Blanca.

Self-Funded Journey and Visa Logistics

The Argentine competitor financed her international travel, registration, and lodging independently, receiving airfare assistance from private companies for the Madrid-to-Buenos Aires leg while funding the rest through personal fundraising efforts. While the sports federation organized a group date for U.S. visa processing, high seasonal demand forced Escalada to handle the renewal individually and wait through an extended processing window, though she reported no major administrative hurdles beyond the delay.

Return to Patagonian Competition

Following her return from South Dakota, Escalada competed in a two-day field archery event in Bariloche named “Fuera de la Ley,” organized by the group “Las flechas de Nahuel.” The local tournament required participants to navigate mountainous terrain, climb obstacles, and shoot at traditional targets and animal figures under field conditions.
