Top national archers gather at CNAR for 2026 championship

Top national archers, including recent medalists from the Santo Domingo 2026 Central American and Caribbean Games, gathered at the Centro Nacional de Desarrollo de Talentos Deportivos y Alto Rendimiento (CNAR) to compete in the 2026 National Archery Championship.

The tournament runs from August 19 to 23 and features athletes across Sub-18, Sub-21, and senior divisions in recurve, compound, and barebow disciplines, according to official government reporting.

Opening rounds and competition rhythm at CNAR

Activity at the facility kicked off with official practice sessions and the men’s qualification round. For competitors returning straight from international assignments, the domestic meet provides a vital testing ground to evaluate current form and adjust to competitive pressures.

Tadeo Rodríguez, a Coahuila native who secured a team recurve gold medal at Santo Domingo 2026, explained that his immediate focus centers on rebuilding momentum after a period of active rest.

Mis expectativas son mantenerme dentro de los primeros lugares, mantener mis puntuaciones y, como venimos también de un poco de descanso activo, activarnos nuevamente, Rodríguez stated, noting that the national tournament helps establish performance benchmarks for the upcoming competitive cycle.

Reflecting on his debut at the regional games, Rodríguez acknowledged the environmental hurdles athletes faced during the international event. Fue una competencia muy difícil por el calor, nos estábamos adaptando. Eran mis primeros Juegos y se consiguieron los dos objetivos para mí: mantener el oro por equipos y bronce individual, entonces estoy feliz, he said.

Mentorship and technical measurement for Mexican archers

Beyond personal scores, the championship serves as a collaborative environment where established international competitors interact with younger athletes advancing through the talent pipeline. Francisco Padilla of Baja California emphasized the value of the national stage for gauging technical consistency.

Padilla also highlighted the responsibility veteran team members carry as role models for developing competitors. Más que cuidar los puntos y la técnica, también está el convivir con otros atletas para motivar. Al final somos un punto de partida, un ejemplo para los demás atletas; es motivarlos también, he noted.

Echoing that perspective, fellow Coahuila archer Juan Pablo Téllez pointed out the developmental impact of the tournament for newcomers entering high-performance sport. Es un evento muy bueno para el desarrollo de los atletas, también para nosotros, para los que van empezando y para los que quieren llegar al alto nivel, Téllez remarked.

Schedule and upcoming medal events

Competition continues through the week as organizers cycle through remaining divisions and medal brackets. Thursday’s schedule features women’s qualifications, men’s individual elimination matches, and the final matchups for mixed team events, further defining the standings across all contested categories at CNAR.
