The TV St. Ingbert Devils baseball team began transforming the four structures at Ballpark Wallerfeld on October 25, starting a workshop to design the club’s buildings with the help of participants and professional artist Thorben Sand, saarnews reported.
Volunteers Paint Ballpark Wallerfeld Structures
Children, teenagers, adults, and local guests gathered between 13:00 and 16:00 local time for the initial session of the club’s community painting initiative. Participants worked alongside Thorben Sand to cover the baseball facility’s wooden and concrete buildings with custom murals. The site features two baseball dugouts, one softball dugout, and a scorer’s house—facilities constructed incrementally by club members since the venue was converted from the former Wallerfeld sports field in 2011.
Artists Collaborate on Baseball and Devil Motifs
While the club established basic thematic boundaries requiring the words “Baseball,” “Softball,” and “Devils” to remain visible across the artwork, the artists developed most of the specific visual concepts collaboratively. Sand brought initial drawings and structural ideas to the project, but participants contributed their own sketches during group planning sessions to coordinate the layout. The finished sections depict cartoon baseball figures wearing mitts, a pitcher and batter dressed in Devils team uniforms, bold typography, and a smiling devil mascot.
Club Secures Funding for Aesthetic Overhaul
Club officials noted that the aesthetic overhaul required years of preparation before materializing. “A dream comes true,” said head of department Mark Unbehend, explaining that sufficient time and financial resources finally aligned for the organization this year. Organizers scheduled a second session for the weekend following the initial kickoff to complete remaining surfaces and finish work on unfinished buildings. Participation for the community sessions was capped at a 20-euro fee for external visitors, with club members receiving priority access and children permitted to join starting from age 10.
