Shinhan Bank S-Birds make braille practice books for visually impaired children

The Incheon Shinhan Bank S-Birds women’s basketball team traveled to the Shinhan Bank Blue Campus training facility to manufacture braille practice books for visually impaired children and adolescents, according to a report by MyDaily.

Community Outreach Ahead of the Season

The volunteer session took place on September 30, just ahead of the tip-off for the professional women’s basketball season. Team representatives stated that the initiative aimed to provide tangible support to young people who struggle to view live athletic competition with their own eyes. According to Voice of Busan coverage, the project was organized in partnership with Changemaker, a registered non-profit organization.

Players participated in an educational lecture covering the current status and daily hurdles faced by visually impaired individuals in South Korea. Following the briefing, the squad assembled physical learning tools designed to help young students grasp braille characters through tactile repetition. Basketball team members placed meaning on connecting the teamwork built on the court to sharing with the local community by directly producing the learning tools.

Players Create Tactile Learning Aids for Beginners

The roster participation spanned all corners of the organization. National team members who recently returned from winning medals at the Asian Games worked alongside newly acquired Asian quarter foreign players and incoming rookies, as reported by MyDaily.

Participants manufactured page-by-page components and joined puzzle pieces together under production guidelines. Voice of Busan noted that the learning aids feature raised dots arranged so beginners can explore formations using their fingertips. In addition to the notebooks, the club provided tactile board games featuring movable human figures with adjustable arms and legs, allowing children to replicate physical postures with the assistance of a guardian. The gifts were prepared by combining braille learning support with play experiences so that children can use them in their daily lives.

Delivery to Incheon Welfare Facilities

Once Changemaker completes final inspections and necessary quality checks, the finished educational tools and supportive board games will be shipped out. The items are slated for donation to the Michuhol Braille Welfare Center located within the team’s home territory of Incheon, accompanied by instructional guides tailored to help institutional staff integrate the tools into daily learning routines.

Shinhan Bank finished the previous season at the bottom of the standings with a 9-21 record, a disappointing finish the club aims to move past in the upcoming campaign.

Future Social Contribution Expansion

Changemaker stated its policy to continuously expand face-to-face, non-face-to-face, and family-participatory social contribution programs in which corporate executives and employees can easily and meaningfully participate.
