The regional tournament of the Italian Judo Trophy concluded in Cagliari, drawing 302 athletes under the age of 15 and recording 435 matches across two days of competition. Staged at Palazzetto A within the municipal sports complex on Via dello Sport, the event marked the return of the youth competition to the Sardinian capital for the first time since 2018.
Cagliari Welcomes 302 Young Judoka for Regional Finals
The entry list featured 69 Sardinian judoka representing 24 regional clubs. Competition centered on the Under-15 Beginner B category, which accommodates boys aged 13 to 15. Attendance figures reached over 3,000 spectators on the stands, supported by 120 accompanying personnel and 22 referees.
Piemont and Sicily Win Four Titles Each
Piemont and Sicily emerged as the most successful regional delegations, capturing four titles each in the individual brackets. The men’s division winners included Francesco Enzo Paolo, Nicola De Musso, Dario Scatà, Savino Borraccino, Ignazio Mattia Arrabito, Cristiano Di Rosa, Luca Attilio Panzone, Alessio Fagiano, Alessandro Gargiulo, and Jonas Toracchio. In the men’s team standings, Team Iacovazzi secured first place with 36 points, followed by Akiyama with 28 points and Koizumi with 24 points.
On the women’s side, gold medals went to Jasmine Marconi, Giada Antoci, Sarah Ferraro, Giulia Maria Durante, Vittoria Giansante, Ecaterina Tudorica Ricagni, Matilde Di Puccio, Chiara Rovagna, and Sofia Venturini. Kumiai claimed the women’s club trophy with 20 points, ahead of Akiyama with 18 points and Sport Dream and Power with 14 points.
Tournament Determines Qualification for Italian Championships
Beyond regional honors, the tournament served as a key qualifier for the national ranking list, determining qualification for the Italian A1 and A2 championships for the top twenty athletes in each category. Dignitaries in attendance included FIJLKAM federal board member Maria Teresa Motta, CONI Sardinia regional vice president Stefania Soro, and Cagliari municipal sports councilor Giuseppe Macciotta.
