The Jorge Jiménez Archery Polygon at the Ciudad Merliot Sports Complex hosts an international training camp organized by the Salvadoran Archery Federation, bringing together 20 athletes from El Salvador and Honduras to sharpen their skills in recurve and compound disciplines.
International Camp at Ciudad Merliot
Twenty athletes representing El Salvador and Honduras are participating in the multi-day training sessions at the Jorge Jiménez Archery Polygon in the Ciudad Merliot Sports Complex. The program covers both recurve and compound disciplines under the direction of Salvadoran coaching staff. Beyond technical instruction on the shooting line, the camp provides administrative training for visiting coaches and federation leaders from Honduras, creating a collaborative framework between the two national governing bodies.
Preparation for Upcoming International Competition
Carlos Salvador, compound archery coach for the host federation, stated that the camp serves a dual purpose for national athletes and visiting guests. “Programamos el campamento para esta semana con los amigos de la federación de Honduras,” Salvador said, noting that the group includes development-category archers across both divisions and genders. He added that the training directly supports Salvadoran competitors preparing for an upcoming international assignment. “Estamos trabajando en la enseñanza de todo lo que compete al área técnica para reforzar los atletas de desarrollo. Al final, vamos a realizar una competencia para poner en práctica lo que hemos visto en los entrenos. Esto también servirá para los que competirán en Guyana a mediados de este mes.”
Athlete Perspective from the Shooting Line
Isabel Pineda, a developing compound archer from Honduras, described the travel and training experience in El Salvador as highly beneficial for her athletic growth. Pineda noted that recommendations from peers who previously visited the facility prompted her federation to coordinate the trip. “Hemos estado recibiendo bastantes consejos de los entrenadores de El Salvador, eso nos está ayudando a ver cómo mejorar nuestro rendimiento,” Pineda said, highlighting the welcoming environment and local security during her stay at the complex.
Tournament Climax at the Polygon
The training week concludes with a competitive tournament designed to test the skills developed during the technical sessions. Archers from both delegations will face each other in a formal match format on the final day at the Ciudad Merliot venue, giving the development-level competitors practical match experience before returning to their respective training schedules.
