Rimouski opens archery facility at Adhémar-St-Laurent center

The city of Rimouski has officially opened a brand-new archery facility at the Adhémar-St-Laurent community center, providing the region with an official competition site just ahead of provincial tournaments, Journal Le Soir reported.

Elected officials, local collaborators, and regional athletes gathered for the ribbon-cutting ceremony and the venue’s first public demonstrations. Three young archers from the Club des Archers de Rimouski—Alicia Leblanc, Xavier Desjardins-Gagné, and Raphaël Lepage—performed the inaugural shots. Three additional club members from the region, Léane D’Astous, Mathis Morin, and Emy Santerre, are also set to compete.

Quebec Ministry of Education Funds Rimouski Project

The project represents a total investment of $417,000 CAD. Of that funding, $200,000 CAD was supplied by the Quebec Ministry of Education through its infrastructure support program for the Quebec Games.

Guy Caron marked the opening during the site’s inauguration, noting that the facility arrives nearly a year before the 57th Finale of the Quebec Games, scheduled for July 21 to 29, 2023. Caron credited internal municipal teams for dedicating numerous hours to the build, stating that the high-quality installations now allow Rimouski to host both provincial and national-level competitions.

Isabelle Charest, Minister Delegate for Education and Minister Responsible for the Status of Women, expressed support for the initiative, highlighting the government’s ongoing commitment to sports and recreation for young athletes and their families.

Municipal Crews Build Archery Complex to Competitive Standards

Construction work on the archery complex was handled entirely by municipal work crews in Rimouski, with engineering support provided by TR3E – Experts conseils inc. The site features several specialized amenities designed to meet official competitive standards.

The layout includes ten double lanes offering shooting distances of 30 meters, 50 meters, and 70 meters. Installers added 12 concentric targets manufactured by local firm Allégeance Archerie, alongside fencing equipped with removable safety nets, a graded field, a dedicated service building, and a five-meter-high protective embankment at the back of the terrain.

Upcoming Public Opening Event

The Club des Archers de Rimouski inc. scheduled a public opening event for Saturday, August 13, inviting residents of all ages to experience the discipline. The program features introductory archery sessions, skill competitions, games, informational kiosks, and participation prizes. Equipment remains available on site for citizens looking to try out the installations.
