Prabowo Awards Billions in Bonuses to Indonesia’s 2026 Asian Games and Para Games Medalists

Prabowo Subianto presented cash bonuses and official recognition to medal-winning athletes and coaches from the 2026 Asian Games and the 5th Asian Para Games in Nagoya, Japan. The ceremony took place on Thursday, October 29, 2026, in the courtyard of Merdeka Palace in Jakarta, following a campaign that saw the national delegation surpass its pre-tournament gold medal projections.

Bonus Payouts and Official Reward Tiers

The government structured the financial awards according to medal color and competition category, distributing funds directly to individual athletes, doubles pairs, and team representatives. Individual gold medalists received 3 billion Indonesian rupiah, while silver medalists earned 525 million rupiah and bronze medalists collected 262.5 million rupiah. For doubles events, the payouts adjusted to 2.4 billion rupiah for gold, 420 million rupiah for silver, and 210 million rupiah for bronze. Meanwhile, for team competitors, gold medalists received 1.5 billion rupiah, silver 315 million rupiah, and bronze 157.5 million rupiah.

Coaches also received substantial financial recognition for their athletes’ performances. Personal or pair coaches earned 900 million rupiah for gold medals, 157.5 million rupiah for silver, and 78.75 million rupiah for bronze. Team coaches received 1.2 billion rupiah for gold, 210 million rupiah for silver, and 105 million rupiah for bronze. For second and subsequent medals won by the same athletes, coaching bonuses scaled to 450 million rupiah for gold, 78.75 million rupiah for silver, and 39.375 million rupiah for bronze.

Delegation Achievements in Nagoya and Beyond

During the 2026 Asian Games, the Indonesian delegation captured a total of 39 medals, comprising 5 gold, 11 silver, and 23 bronze. That tally exceeded the government’s pre-game target of 4 gold medals. In the subsequent 5th Asian Para Games in Aichi-Nagoya, the contingent outperformed expectations by securing 15 gold, 21 silver, and 37 bronze medals, totaling 73 podium finishes against an initial projection of 7 gold medals.

Prabowo Subianto personally thanked the competitors, coaching staff, and support personnel during the palace gathering. “I represent the state, the nation, and the Indonesian people, and on behalf of the government, I thank all participants, all athletes, coaches, and everyone who took part in the struggle of the Indonesian delegation to the Asian Games and the Asian Para Games,” the president said.

Athletes and Coaches Recognized at Merdeka Palace

President Prabowo handed symbolic checks to selected athletes and coaches representing the broader delegations. The honored athletes included Desak Made from sport climbing, Nurisa Dian Ashrifah from archery, I Kadek Dwi from athletics, Muhammad Iqbal from shooting, Junaidi from judo, Eugenia Diva from wushu, and Yayang Gunaya from table tennis. Badminton coach Indra Wijaya was also among the recipients honored during the ceremony.

Sports Minister Erick Thohir attended the presentation and detailed the direct distribution method used for the top-tier winners. “He directly thanked him, directly handing the 3 billion rupiah bonus to the gold winner. But, of course, if it is a pair or doubles, then the value is 2.4 billion, and if it is a team, then the value is 1.5 billion,” the minister said.
