Over 300 Athletes Gather for 20th Copa Regatas Judo in Lima

More than 300 athletes from Peru and international delegations gathered at the Villa Deportiva coliseum for the 20th Copa Internacional de Judo Regatas, featuring a broad range of developmental and advanced divisions, Andina reported. This event carries special relevance by actively driving the development and expansion of judo practice within the country while strengthening competitive contact between national and international judokas.

Competition Divisions and Young Competitors at Villa Deportiva

The tournament spanned multiple age groups and skill levels, welcoming competitors in the U13 and U15 divisions alongside novice and advanced brackets in Groups 1, 2, and 3. Beyond the primary bracket matches, the event featured the Miniprix Festival exhibition. This showcase introduced more than 100 children between the ages of 5 and 9 to tournament play.

The Club de Regatas Lima organized the competition, while the Federación Deportiva Peruana de Judo handled technical direction. Award ceremonies featured María Paz Roca Rey, the club’s judo discipline coordinator, alongside commission member Renzo Otiura. Alberto Siles serves as the club’s sports director. The tournament also highlighted the work of the Club de Regatas Lima personnel, the professionalism of the referee team and the Peru Judo Federation staff, and the constant support of the fans.

Gold Medal Matches in Novice Weight Classes

Competition concluded with standout performances in the novice brackets. Gabriel Montero added a second gold for the host club in the novice men’s -73 kg category, overcoming Daniel Torres of club TAK in the closing seconds of the final.

Packed grandstands at the Villa Deportiva venue marked the tournament’s 20th running. Organizers noted that the strong turnout and competitive depth reinforce the event’s standing on the national and international judo calendar.

Statements from Club Officials

This twentieth edition reaffirms our institution’s commitment to promoting the values of sport and the development of new promises of national judo. Seeing more than 300 athletes on stage and witnessing the enthusiasm of the little ones in the Miniprix demonstrates that teamwork bears truly extraordinary fruits, stated María Paz Roca Rey.

We thank the Peruvian Judo Sports Federation, the visiting delegations and each of the families that accompanied us. The dedication of our staff and the competitive level seen in Villa consolidate this International Cup as a benchmark in the national and international sports calendar, the Club Regatas highlighted.
