“Well, I’d rather just go back to the pit box to discuss it.”
The incident resulted in Piastri’s retirement and dropped Norris to an eighth-place finish, leaving the team with a damaged car and stewards investigating the clash.
The Late-Race Collision at Marina Bay
The intra-team battle boiled over in the closing stages of the sprint event. Norris attempted to dive down the inside of his teammate into a gap, but the move ended in contact between the two MCL38 machines. Piastri sustained race-ending damage, while Norris salvaged a single point for eighth. Norris acknowledged the initial appearance of the move when questioned by broadcasters, confirming that “it looked like that” when asked if he thought the gap would hold.
Inside the Garage and Post-Race Apologies
Speaking to Sky Sports F1 immediately after climbing out of his cockpit, Norris kept his remarks brief. “I want to apologize to the team, that one of the cars went out because of this incident,” he said. “Other than that, I need to review it.”
Defending the Sprint Racing Mentality
Addressing Viaplay regarding whether the lunge was avoidable, Norris offered a firmer defense of his racing instincts. “What, is it unnecessary to dive into such a big gap? What is the title of this race?” he said, referencing the shorter sprint format. “This was totally not unnecessary. The gap was big, I drive in Formula 1 to race. Beyond that, I will review it with the team.”
Stewards Probe Marina Bay Incident
