An Unpredictable Championship Race in the Netherlands
“Lastig,” Noa Vahle said of predicting the winner.
Broadcaster Noa Vahle described the Eredivisie championship race as unpredictable following a weekend of twists across the Dutch top flight, VoetbalPrimeur reported. Speaking on SBS6 program Nieuws van de Dag, Vahle admitted that picking a clear title favorite remains exceptionally difficult after reigning champions PSV drew with Feyenoord and Ajax scraped past Sparta Rotterdam.
PSV Holds the Best Credentials Despite Dropping Points
“In the beginning of the year you are asked to hand in a list. Logically, that is then PSV, because they have been champions for three years in a row with the same trainer. Then Feyenoord came up and PSV let it slip a bit.”

Despite dropping points in their high-profile clash, PSV holds the best remaining credentials to lift the trophy at the end of the season, according to Vahle’s assessment on SBS6. The Eindhoven club benefits from a stable core, greater squad depth, and a technical staff that has maintained continuity over multiple seasons.
However, Vahle noted that the weekend’s marquee fixture failed to deliver a convincing spectacle. Consequently, she identified PSV as the weekend’s primary loser in terms of lost momentum at the top of the standings.
Ajax Struggles for Cohesion Despite Transfer Investments
Ajax capitalized on the slip-ups of their rivals by securing a narrow victory over Sparta Rotterdam, yet questions remain about the long-term stability of the Amsterdam squad. Vahle observed that despite bringing in several notable names during the transfer window, the club still resembles a “vreemdelingenlegioen” — a foreign legion — that has yet to gel into a cohesive unit.
“You have Ajax, which very laboriously drags the points in against Sparta,” Vahle said. She emphasized that prizes are not awarded in October, pointing out that Ajax, PSV, and Feyenoord are all experiencing turbulent patches during this phase of the campaign.

Feyenoord and Twente Round Out the Open Contention
Feyenoord relies heavily on a strong starting eleven and individual brilliance under coach Giovanni van Bronckhorst, though Vahle questioned whether the Rotterdam side possesses the necessary squad depth to sustain a full title charge. Meanwhile, AZ stumbled at home against FC Twente, a result that further muddied the standings.
Vahle singled out FC Twente as a dangerous outsider in the championship battle, noting that AZ’s strong start to the season took a hit with their home defeat. With multiple contenders showing vulnerability, the Eredivisie enters the next round of fixtures with no clear separation at the summit.
