Joshua K., the 28-year-old man accused of murdering former British Member of Parliament Ann Widdecombe, now faces an additional charge of preparing acts of terrorism targeting right-wing politician Nigel Farage, according to the British prosecution. The new charges span activities allegedly carried out between May 31, 2024, and July 8, 2026, as law enforcement agencies expand their investigation into threats against high-profile political figures in the United Kingdom.
The Murder of Ann Widdecombe and Initial Arrest
Ann Widdecombe, a 78-year-old former Conservative MP and prominent Brexit campaigner, was found dead on July 9 in her home in Dartmoor, located in the English county of Devon. According to police findings, her body sustained severe trauma, including 21 hammer strikes. Authorities from the anti-terrorism policing network subsequently arrested Joshua K., a resident of Rotherham in northern England, who has remained in custody since July without entering a plea regarding the motives or mechanics of the attack.
Expansion of Terrorism Charges Involving Nigel Farage
Frank Ferguson, the lead prosecutor for counter-terrorism, stated that prosecutors found sufficient evidence to pursue additional terror charges against the 28-year-old suspect. Police representative Vicki Evans described the inquiry as extraordinarily complex, noting that multiple investigative teams across the country pursued various leads following Widdecombe’s death. Prosecutors confirmed that the suspect is scheduled to appear before a London magistrates’ court.
