Vietnamese badminton player Nguyen Thuy Linh has reached a world ranking of 18th in July 2025, establishing herself as the country’s most accomplished competitor in the sport as she pursues qualification for the upcoming Olympic Games. Records show she has captured three BWF Super 100 titles and reached five BWF World Tour Super 300 finals.
Nguyen Thuy Linh Exits Asian Games in Round of 16
During the Asian Games hosted in Japan, Nguyen Thuy Linh advanced through the opening rounds of the women’s singles draw by defeating Indonesia’s Wiryawan after receiving a first-round bye. Her run concluded in the round of 16 against China’s Chen Yu Fei, the world number four. Despite capturing one set, Nguyen fell 1-2 and exited the tournament. Badminton at the Asian Games is considered a kind of mini-Olympic Games given the heavy concentration of elite talent from China, South Korea, Japan, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Thailand.
Reflecting on her performance in Japan, Nguyen emphasized the daily grind required to compete at the highest level. “The success does not sum up to exploits on the court, but results from a constant training, an accumulated experience, and a continuous improvement,” Nguyen stated following the tournament. “Each training session is an occasion to perfect my technique. Each match is a test face to new opponents and new challenges.”

The European Tour Stops in Finland and Denmark
Following the Asian Games, Nguyen immediately launched a demanding European tournament schedule. She traveled to Finland for the Arctic Open, a BWF World Tour Super 500 event carrying a total prize purse of $500,000. Ranked 30th globally entering the tournament, she faced Singaporean competitor Yeo Jia Min, who held a 5-1 head-to-head advantage across their previous six meetings.
The Qualification Path to Los Angeles
To secure a berth at the Los Angeles Olympic Games, Nguyen is maintaining an active international competition schedule to accumulate ranking points under Badminton World Federation guidelines. Following her European matches, she is scheduled to return home to represent Dong Nai province at the 2026 National Badminton Games in Ho Chi Minh City in November.
