Nguyễn Thùy Linh eliminated by Mia Blichfeldt at Arctic Open Super 500

Vietnamese badminton player Nguyễn Thùy Linh was eliminated in the second round of the Arctic Open after a hard-fought 2-0 defeat against Denmark’s Mia Blichfeldt in Finland, ending her run at the BWF World Tour Super 500 tournament.

Thùy Linh entered the tournament unseeded, currently ranked No. 30 in the world by the Badminton World Federation. After securing an emotional opening-round comeback victory against Singapore’s Yeo Jia Min, the Vietnamese competitor advanced to face Blichfeldt, the world No. 15 from Denmark.

How the Match Unfolded on the Court

The encounter between Thùy Linh and Blichfeldt lasted nearly an hour, with the Danish player ultimately securing a straight-sets victory at 21-19, 23-21. Throughout the opening set, Thùy Linh maintained constant pressure despite Blichfeldt’s relentless attacks, clawing her way back to take a brief 18-17 lead before Blichfeldt capitalized on critical late-game rallies to close out the set 21-19.

In the second set, Thùy Linh established an 11-10 advantage by the interval and extended her lead to 17-14. However, fading stamina allowed Blichfeldt to mount a late surge, overtaking Thùy Linh at 20-19. Although the Vietnamese player held on, Blichfeldt claimed the victory 23-21 and secure her place in the quarterfinals.

International Badminton Context

The Arctic Open is part of the official Badminton World Federation Super 500 circuit, drawing a competitive field that includes top-ten players such as Han Yue, Ratchanok Intanon, and Pornpawee Chochuwong. While the loss stops Thùy Linh’s progression in Finland, her performance builds upon a competitive stretch on the international calendar, which included reaching the second round at the 20th Asian Games and securing a set victory against world No. 4 Chen Yu Fei.
