Opening Round Battle Against Yeo Jia Min in Finland

Competing at the Arctic Open 2026, Vietnam’s top-ranked women’s singles player Nguyen Thuy Linh, ranked 30th globally, faced a difficult opening match against Singapore’s Yeo Jia Min, ranked 46th in the world. Records show that Yeo previously held the position of world junior number one and reached 11th in the Badminton World Federation rankings. Historical head-to-head records entering the match favored the Singaporean competitor with five wins out of six prior meetings against the Vietnamese player.

The first set saw Yeo take control early, though Nguyen mounted a strong challenge to level the score at 18-18. Yeo capitalized on crucial points in the closing moments to take the opening set 21-19. In the second set, Yeo established an early lead of 18-14 and later 19-16. Rallying under pressure, Nguyen claimed five consecutive points to secure a 21-19 victory in the second set, tying the match at 1-1.

Carrying that momentum into the deciding third set, Nguyen established control to win 21-15, wrapping up the 2-1 comeback victory after nearly an hour of play on the court.
