Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels will wear a protective brace on his non-throwing arm starting Sunday against the New York Giants, following two elbow dislocations over the past year, according to reports.
Medical Concerns Surrounding Jayden Daniels and Left Elbow Vulnerability
According to information obtained by ESPN’s Adam Schefter, certain NFL physicians believe the Washington Commanders’ 25-year-old signal-caller will suffer another injury to his left elbow at some point, viewing a future setback as a matter of when rather than if. Several healthcare professionals across the league, including some who have never personally examined him, judge that these repeated episodes render him more vulnerable to additional damage. To limit those risks, Daniels will wear a brace on his non-throwing arm for the remainder of the season, debuting the equipment when Washington faces the New York Giants.
Training Participation and Offensive Coordinator Confidence
Daniels has missed the Commanders’ last two games after sustaining an injury during a Week 2 loss against the Dallas Cowboys. However, he participated fully in all practice sessions this week without restriction and does not appear on the team’s injury report. Washington offensive coordinator David Blough offered reassurance on Thursday, telling ESPN’s John Keim that his quarterback is fully available and that the game plan will remain unchanged, adding that the entire team is eager to welcome him back.
Roster Depth and Standings Pressure for Washington
The stakes are high for Washington as they look to rebound from a 1-3 record. In 2024, Daniels earned NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year honors after guiding the Commanders to the NFC Championship Game. The following season proved far more difficult, as various physical ailments—including his first left elbow dislocation—cost him 10 games. Behind him, roster depth is thin; with Marcus Mariota sidelined due to a torn medial collateral ligament in his knee, rookie Athan Kaliakmanis serves as the primary backup quarterback.
