The Mexican archery team opened its medal count at the Puebla Archery World Cup on Wednesday, securing a pair of bronze medals in both the men’s and women’s compound team events at the opening leg of the circuit’s 20th anniversary season, according to official reports.
Puebla Compound Teams Claim Bronze Openers
The women’s compound team featured reigning world champion Maya Becerra, central and pan-American monarch Dafne Quintero, and international multimedallist Ana Hernández. The trio secured the country’s first podium finish by defeating Turkey’s Yesim Bostan, Defne Cakmak, and Emine Oguz with a score of 233-230. This victory reunites a national lineup that last triumphed together during the 2023 season, where they claimed five out of a possible six medals.
Following the women’s success, the men’s compound team consisting of Sebastián García, Juan Del Río, and Máximo Méndez earned a bronze medal of the same color. The Mexican trio defeated Denmark’s Bredal Bryld, Martin Damsbo, and Mathias Fullerton 233-226 to secure their third-place finish.
Recurvists Prepare for Qualification Rounds
Competition at the venue in Puebla continued with the qualification rounds for the recurve divisions. The Mexican squad deployed an elite roster featuring Paris 2024 Olympic medalists Alejandra Valencia, Ana Paula Vázquez, and Ángela Ruiz, alongside world number three and multimedallist Matías Grande.
The tournament spans multiple days at the Puebla venue, drawing hundreds of spectators. The competition serves as a critical qualification stop, offering ranking points toward the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games. The event is organized collaboratively by the National Commission for Physical Culture and Sport (CONADE), the Government of Puebla, World Archery México, and World Archery.
