Mauritius secured the bronze medal in the mixed team event at the U19 All Africa Badminton

Mauritius secured the bronze medal in the mixed team event at the U19 All Africa Badminton Championships in Cairo after a tightly contested 55-52 semifinal loss to South Africa, Le Mauricien reported.

Semifinal Collapse Against South Africa

The Mauritian youth side held a controlling position through the early stages of the team relay format, where points accumulate continuously. After the first five relays, Mauritius surged ahead to a 55-33 advantage. South Africa steadily chipped away at the deficit as the match progressed, cutting the margin to a single point at 44-43 following the ninth passage.

Decisive Final Relays in Cairo

South Africa seized momentum during the men’s doubles relay segment to capture the lead. Despite a tense final exchange, Mauritius could not regain the advantage. South Africa reached the 55-point threshold first to close out the 55-52 victory and advance to the final of the 12-nation continental tournament.

Squad Preparations for Individual Events

The Mauritian delegation competing in Egypt includes male players Nyanesh Changea, Jonathan Ng Wing Lit, and Pranav Bhaugeerothee, alongside female players Tiya Bhurtun, Elsa How Hong, and Chiara How Hong. The team is overseen by coach Yogeshwarsingh Mahadnac and team manager Sachin Ramessur. The players transition immediately to the individual tournament phases across men’s singles, women’s singles, men’s doubles, women’s doubles, and mixed doubles. Competition across all five individual categories offers critical points toward the BWF World Junior Rankings ahead of the 2026 BWF World Junior Championships, scheduled to take place in Cairo from October 5 to 17.
