Eduardo Curbelo Wins Under-17 Title at TOP TTR Granadilla Badminton Tournament

Eduardo Curbelo secured the 2026 Canary Islands Regional Badminton Circuit title in the under-17 boys’ category after claiming the gold medal at the TOP TTR Granadilla tournament held at the Pabellón Municipal Los Hinojeros in Granadilla de Abona. Representing the Auria Bádminton Club, Curbelo competed in an N7-level regional event over the weekend, while club teammate Samuel Tarife captured the silver medal in the senior absolute division.

Curbelo Dominates Under-17 Group Stage and Knockouts

Entering the tournament as the second seed in the under-17 men’s singles, Curbelo dropped zero matches across his group fixtures. The Lanzarote player opened group play with a 21-7, 21-13 victory over Guillermo Prudencio, followed by a tougher 21-14, 26-24 win against Pedro García, and closed out the round-robin phase by defeating Alai Donghai Umaran 21-8, 21-11.

In the semifinal round, Curbelo eliminated Gerard Hernández with a 21-9, 21-15 scoreline. That set up a title clash against Diego Pérez, where the Auria player clinched the gold medal by prevailing in a tight three-set battle, 21-14, 22-20, 24-22.

Consistency Across Regional Circuits Secures the 2026 Title

The Granadilla victory capped a remarkably consistent season for Curbelo across the Canary Islands circuit. His gold medal performance this weekend builds upon two previous key results earlier in the year: a third-place finish at the TOP TTR Agüimes in February and a tournament victory at the TOP TTR Valverde in June.

Advancing to the semifinals, Tarife defeated Oscar Rostro 21-14, 21-14. However, his run ended in the championship final against Sergio Alonso, who claimed the gold by defeating Tarife 21-12, 21-19, leaving the Auria Bádminton Club representative with the silver medal.
