Marcos Vinagre Chases Spanish Superbike Title in Jerez Finale

Thirteen-year-old Spanish motorcycle racer Marcos Vinagre faces a three-point deficit heading into the season finale of the Pre-Talent category at the Campeonato de España de Superbikes in Jerez, where he needs to outscore championship leader Javier Vigueras by more than three points to successfully defend his title.

Championship Standings and the Title Race at Jerez

Vigueras holds the top spot in the standings with 212 points, while Vinagre trails closely behind with 209 points heading into the seventh and final round of the season at the Circuito de Jerez in southern Spain. The championship battle has narrowed down to a duel between the two Igax Team riders, who have combined to win nine of the twelve races contested so far this season. Vigueras has claimed six victories, compared to three for Vinagre. Under the championship rules, total race wins serve as the primary tiebreaker if riders finish level on points.

Santiago Iglesias sits third in the standings with 171 points, and José Luis Cagigas holds fourth with 184 points. While both mathematically remain in contention, the overwhelming dominance of the Igax Team frontrunners leaves the title practically out of reach for the rest of the grid.

Race Format and Scoring System at the Circuito de Jerez

The weekend features two points-paying races at the historic Andalusian venue. The first race takes place on Saturday at 13:30 local time (11:30 UTC), followed by the second race on Sunday at 10:40 local time (08:40 UTC). The championship utilizes standard motorcycle racing points allocation: 25 points for first place, 20 for second, 16 for third, 13 for fourth, and 11 for fifth, with subsequent positions descending by a single point down the order.

With 50 points available across the two remaining races, Vinagre acknowledges the open nature of the finale. We are three points behind, there are 50 in play between the two races and anyone can win, Vinagre said earlier in the week upon arriving at the track.

Past Performance and Track Familiarity in Andalusia

Vinagre arrives in Jerez with positive history at the circuit, having secured 27 points to Vigueras’s 14 during the opening round of the season held at the same venue. Despite the strong initial points haul, Vinagre experienced a turbulent start to the campaign, including a crash in the first round at Navarra and an incident where he was forced off the track during the second Jerez race. His status as the reigning category champion, however, provides composure. I am not very nervous, I was more so last year. But I have already won it, Vinagre noted.

Closing Schedule

Free practice and qualifying sessions precede the opening race at the Circuito de Jerez, concluding with the final race where the Pre-Talent champion will be officially decided.
