Lizardi-Zarautz Judokas Compete in Senior Spanish Cup in Getafe

Three female judokas from Judo Klub Lizardi-Zarautz will compete on Saturday, October 25, at the senior-category Spanish Cup held in Getafe, Madrid, representing the Basque Country team.

Weigh-in and travel schedule in Getafe

The Zarautz delegation traveled on Friday to complete the official competitor registration and weigh-in procedures ahead of Saturday’s tournament. The club’s roster features Nahia Arregi, Isabela Ávila, and Naiara Villasante, each entering the tournament with distinct competitive milestones and preparation goals for the upcoming Spanish Championship.

Nahia Arregi seeks qualification for the national final phase

Nahia Arregi competes in the -57 kg division as the current runner-up of the Basque Country. She will use the Getafe tournament to rack up matches and build competitive rhythm. Arregi faces a swift turnaround with a scheduled appearance on October 31 at the Spanish Championship sector phase in Pamplona. Securing a gold or silver medal in Pamplona would secure her qualification for the national final phase scheduled for Lugo.

Naiara Villasante builds toward Lugo

Naiara Villasante also competes, traveling to Getafe to sharpen her form for her primary seasonal target. Villasante bypassed the Basque Country Championship after securing direct qualification for the Spanish Championship through accumulated points on the national Cup circuit. She aims to recover physical sensations and match sharpness before the national tournament in Lugo. Last year, Villasante missed the podium by losing the bronze medal match in the repechage, fueling her ambition to secure a medal this season.

Upcoming sector phase in Pamplona

Following Saturday’s bouts in Getafe, the regional competitors shift their preparation toward the Spanish Championship sector phase scheduled for October 31 in Pamplona.
