Para Panamerican Championships Open at Complejo Matute
Eighty para-archers from 10 countries gathered at Complejo Matute in the La Victoria district to open the Para Panamerican Championships Lima 2026 on Wednesday. The international archery tournament runs from Thursday through Sunday, featuring delegations from Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Guatemala, Mexico, Peru, and the United States.
While one report noted participation from 10 countries, another report noted that 13 nations are represented in the continental field—adding Bolivia, Cuba, Jamaica, and Venezuela to the entry lists. Competition takes place across Recurvo Open and Compuesto Open categories in both men’s and women’s divisions, serving as a qualifier for the VIII Juegos Parapanamericanos Lima 2027.
Sports Leaders and Municipal Authorities Attend Inauguration Ceremony
The inauguration ceremony brought together regional sports leaders and municipal authorities at the venue in La Victoria. Attendees included Renzo Manyari, president of the Peruvian Olympic Committee; Rubén Cano, mayor of the Municipality of La Victoria; Luisa Villar, president of the National Paralympic Association of Peru; Denith Silva, president of the archery federation; Javier Ramírez, director of DINADAF at the IPD; and international technical delegate Erick Leiter.
Denith Silva addressed the gathered athletes and officials during the opening remarks. “Today we not only inaugurate a championship; we celebrate talent, diversity, equality of opportunity, and the power of sport to unite people and transform our society,” Silva said. She added that hosting an event of this scale demonstrates Peru’s capability to stage international competitions of high standing.
Peruvian Para-Archers Compete on Home Soil
Peru’s national delegation features four primary athletes competing across open recurve and compound events. Marco Huaytalla Pérez competes in Arco Recurvo Varones Open, Daniela Campos Marzano enters the Arco Recurvo Damas Open, and the duo of Juan José Lazarte Leguía and Junior Vargas Landeo contest the Arco Compuesto Varones Open.
Additional context highlighted that Daniela Campos arrives as the continent’s top-ranked archer in women’s Recurvo Open and benefits from the IPD’s Lima 2027 support program. Marco Huaytalla enters the tournament following a bronze medal performance in mixed teams at the Valledupar 2026 Pan American Championship, alongside teammates Junior Vargas and Juan José Lazarte.
