Karşıyaka Navigates Roster Overhaul and Early Home Bans
The Izmir representative had to play its opening two home matches without spectators due to sanctions stemming from incidents in a previous-season fixture against Bursaspor. Despite playing in an empty arena, the team managed to secure victories in those initial home outings. Thus, having won both home fixtures played without supporters, Karşıyaka hosted Fenerbahçe in the fifth week during a match where they reunited with their fans.
The early schedule brought mixed results for the green-and-reds, who drew attention with their performances in the opening weeks of the league. Karşıyaka opened the season with a narrow one-point away loss to Türk Telekom before claiming their first victory by defeating Galatasaray 78-71 at home in the second week. Following a 92-82 away defeat to Bahçeşehir Koleji in the third week, the team rebounded with a 95-79 home win over Çayırova Belediyesi.

Fenerbahçe Breaks Unbeaten Home Run in Fifth Week
The fifth week of the season brought Fenerbahçe to Izmir for Karşıyaka’s first match in front of their returning supporters. While the home side kept pace during a competitive first half, their performance dipped after the interval as Fenerbahçe pulled away to seal a 97-72 victory.
Markovic Points to Defensive Breakdowns After the Match
Karşıyaka head coach Nenad Markovic addressed reporters after the final buzzer, expressing gratitude to the supporters for creating an energetic atmosphere. The veteran coach stated that they derived important lessons from the match and would continue their work, beginning his remarks by congratulating Fenerbahçe on the victory.
“Throughout the entire match, we couldn’t stop Fenerbahçe from driving to the basket. Every time they went to the rim, it resulted in either a basket, a basket-foul, or two free throws.”
Markovic highlighted a crucial sequence late in the first half when Yavuz made a three-pointer and a subsequent offensive foul was called with one minute remaining, cutting the deficit to four points before Fenerbahçe pushed the lead back to 13 before halftime. Despite the lopsided final score, the coach emphasized that his group will draw vital lessons from the encounter as they continue their league campaign, noting that people will probably think his team is not at that level while praising Fenerbahçe for playing very seriously and very hard.
